Economic woes aside, these are very creative times, comparable even with the turn of the century. Designers at all levels of the Lifestyle Industry are really performing today! The influence of art on design is immense, the new catwalk shows are a veritable feast for the eyes and more and more fashion designers show that they are aware that fashion needs to be both exciting and wearable. Colour has definitely shaken off its seasonal restrictions: never have there been so many dramatic dark colours for a Summer season! Quality is of paramount importance for the dramatic styles we are developing. Make, fabric and trimmings are key. Focus on lightness and luxury look is also stronger than ever. Let us hope that this will inspire a loosening up of the volume-driven approach and that Gap’s new-found awareness of design and quality is the harbinger of things to come …
