Prim is in the air

At the recent Barcelona Bread & Butter fair for streetwear and casuals, checks were one of the dominant trends for Summer 2009. A trend that is also widely confirmed in the fabric offer for next September’s Interfiliere fair in Paris. The focus in Barcelona was on rugged eighties lumberjack or crisp fifties styles in general with very strong colours and contrasts. A sort of punkish eighties style complete with tartans, vinyl and black mesh is also popping up in some lingerie/beachwear fabric updates. For both lace and embroideries, checks and geometrics make a strong impact as grounds. Then there is also something very prim and proper in the air with neat golf checks and preppy spectator contrast. This new ‘neatness’ includes new fashion role models like Roger Federer and Maria Sharapova.
